Main Sports Hall
The Louisa's main hall is comprised of 10 badminton courts and also accommodates 5-A-Side, volley ball, tennis, cricket, trampoline, and the Derwentside Football Development Scheme. Apart from individual and team use, it is also hired out regularly to schools and community organisations, and for one-off tournaments and competitions that can be viewed from the spectator gallery.
Shokk Fitness Suite
The shokk Fitness Suite provides young people aged 8 - 17 years with an opportunity to exercise using relatively sized equipment, in a fresh, funky environment.
Practice Hall
This multi-functional space is adjacent to the Main Sports Hall and accommodates activities such as table tennis, karate and boxing. It also houses a climbing wall that is available for hire by the hour.
Fitness Suite and Weight Room
Newly installed alongside the pool extension, is one of the best fitness suites in the north east of England. Boasting a fantastic cardio-theatre facility and the very best in resistance equipment the suite accommodates casual users and offers annual membership for individuals and couples who are committed to regular training. The Louisa also offers an additional gym providing users with the opportunity to train using free weights, bars and dumbbells.
Playzone
On the top floor of the building is a purpose-built play area, the 'Playzone'. Equipped with colourful, safe toys and fitted with child-friendly play structures for under 8's, this space has an adjoining cafe area that welcomes parents into a relaxing, friendly environment where they can sit and chat whilst children amuse themselves.
Swimming & Learner Pools
Apart from a spacious 25m x 6 lane pool with outstanding views of the surrounding countryside, The Louisa Centre has a small learner pool which has the benefit of having an adjustable floor. This means that the water depth can be very shallow for tots to play in safety, and can enable wheelchair users to access the pool with ease.
Healthy Lifestyles Studio
This quiet corner of the building provides GP Referral and Cardio Rehabilitation users with the opportunity to exercise in a private, supervised, purpose-built area. The studio is fitted with circuit equipment, including cycles, rowing machines and has a quiet relaxation area.
The Louisa Nursery
Providing full and half-day care for 0-5 year olds, this fully Ofsted inspected facility has a full complement of fully qualified staff and provides a quality service to both children and parents.
Aerobics Studio
This brilliant air-conditioned studio houses a varied programme of specialist classes and sessions including Aerobics, Pilates, and Step Aerobics.
How To Get There
The Louisa Centre is located at the top of Stanley Front Street in the heart of the town. Situated next door to The Lamplight Arts Centre it is only seconds away from the town's bus station serving routes in all directions, including those from Consett, Burnopfield, Gateshead and Newcastle, Chester Le Street and Sunderland, Langley Park and Lanchester.
By car, the centre is easily accessed by way of the A693, traveling east from Chester Le Street, as well as west from the A692, Consett and the A68. The sports & swim centre is under 30 mins travel time from Durham City and the A1, and can also be accessed via the A692 then the A6076 from Gateshead and Newcastle.
Free car parking is available in Scott Street only a minute's walk away, and for people with a disability there are several bays immediately to the front of the Lamplight Arts Centre.
