Alex Is Put Through His paces
Walking On Water!

Walking On Water!

Leader of the Council, Alex Watson, took time out at the weekend, to try the latest craze 'Waterwalkerz' available to book now at both Belle Vue Swim Centre in Consett, and the Louisa Centre in Stanley. These giant see-through plastic balls, are both entertaining and stimulating, and accommodate 1 child or adult at a time, up to a weight of 15 stones, the aim being to run inside like a hamster, and in doing so, propel the ball along the top of the water. The balls that are stored flat, are inflated when in use, and made water tight utilising a zip as the entry/exit. Although it requires intense activity to make them roll, learning and mastering the technique provides great fun for everybody, both inside and out.

After talking to Pool Manager, John Murphy, about the new craze, Cllr Watson took up the challenge and very nearly succeeded in mastering the task. 'Managing to get upright and stay upright inside the ball is hard enough without having to run too', he commented, 'but it's really good fun trying and I'm sure they'll be a great hit with the kids, especially over the summer holiday period. It's obvious that their attraction lies in their fun and entertainment value, but they are also a great form of exercise.'

To guarantee a Waterwalkerz session customers are being advised to book in advance. Accompanying a normal swim, the total cost of a session is £4 children/£5 adults at both facilities. The activity is programmed at various times of week throughout the school holidays at Belle Vue Swim Centre tel. (01207) 218161 and The Louisa Centre tel. (01207) 218877.
