Early in July, as part of National School Sports Week 2008, the School Sport Partnerships within County Durham organised two very successful Sportsability Festivals, aimed at students from both special and mainstream schools.
The events, sponsored by EFDS, N-Power, Sainsburys and Northumbria Water, were held at Spennymoor Leisure Centre and Belle Vue Leisure Centre in Consett. In total 120 students took part in activities that included Polybat, Boccia, Seated Aerobics, Football, Table Cricket, New Age Kurling, Dance and Tri Golf.
After the events, everyone received a free kwik cricket set for their school; a t-shirt, fruit and bottled water, as well as information about local clubs where they where they could continue to become involved in these festival sports.
